Where is Stafford, Virginia located?  Stafford is located on Interstate 95 and Route 1, just 25 miles south of the Washington, DC beltway and 50 miles north of Richmond, VA. For more details, click on Visitor & Travel Services.

Where is Stafford’s Visitors Center?  Stafford’s Visitors Center is located less than 1 mile from I-95, at Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont in Historic Falmouth.  Take I-95 to Exit 133-A (Rte. 17 South - Falmouth/Business).   Follow signs to Belmont -  Down hill toward Rt. 1 - Jeff Davis Highway - Turn right on Washington Street.  Parking Lot is on the right.   224 Washington Street, Falmouth, VA  22405  540-654-1844. Open Daily; 9am - 5pm.

When is the best time to travel to Stafford?  Our county is a great place to visit year-round. Just remember to avoid rush-hour traffic, as we are a suburb of Washington, DC.  (Avoid I-95N between Stafford and Washington, DC during the hours of 5:00-8:00 a.m. M-F, and I-95S between 2:30-6:30 p.m. M-F)

Is Fredericksburg part of Stafford County?  No, the City of Fredericksburg is an independent city. In Virginia, cities and counties are separate from one another. Stafford County does have many small towns and communities in its borders, such as Falmouth, Hartwood, White Oak, and Garrisonville. However, the southern half of Stafford does retain a Fredericksburg mailing address because the City post office originally handled some of Stafford County's mail.  North of the Rappahannock River, you are in Stafford County.  South of the Rappahannock, you are are in the City of Fredericksburg, or Spotsylvania County.
