Stafford, VA – Stafford County is posting destination signs at the Staffordboro and Mine Road commuter lots for slug lines in response to a grass roots initiative from commuters. “Sluggers” requested the signs to more easily determine car pool destinations. The signs will debut on Monday, November 13, 2017.

“Slug lines are unique to our region and Washington, D.C. and many of our citizens rely on them every day,” said Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Paul Milde. “When we were approached by citizens asking for these signs, we committed ourselves to working with the community to assess ways to improve the situation for our commuters.”

Stafford County Government staff conducted an online and in-person survey at the Staffordboro and Mine Road commuter lots to see if commuters wanted the signs and which destinations should be displayed. More than 70% of the 1,083 respondents supported posting slug line signs.

The signs denote two destinations: the Pentagon/Northern Virginia; and D.C./Downtown. Commuters at the Mine Road lot have existing self-organized slug lines. Those locations will remain the same but with the addition of the new signage. Commuters at the Staffordboro lot will now have two different platforms, one for each destination. The new signs will make it easier for drivers to identify which commuters are going to each destination.
